Seeing these cattle in a large mob is quite phenomenal, especially on dusk coming out of the timber. To ensure we maintain a broad gene pool we put both red and grey bulls to the herd retaining the black heifers and black bulls for our breeding program. We have observed that our black Brahmans carry significantly less buffalo fly than the grey and red herds and rarely show signs of rubbing. We do not spray these cattle or put out back rubbers.
We are commencing a study to evaluate the amount of buffalo fly our black Brahman’s carry and the impact of the fly on the black Brahman herd. We are confident that outcome of the study will support our observations that black Brahmans aren’t significantly impacted by buffalo fly.
